Hydrated Lime

　　Calcium hydroxide is white powdery solids and is slightly soluble to water. Its chemical formula is Ca(OH)2, and is commonly known as hydrated lime and air slaked lime, and its water solution is commonly called limewater. Calcium hydroxide is a kind of strong alkali, has the general properties of alkali, and can corrode skin. Besides, as a kind of binary alkali, it is fine white powder, and it soluble in acids, ammonium salt and glycerol; slightly soluble in water and not soluble in alcohol. Its relative density is 2.24. When it is heated up to 580 ℃,it will dehydrate and become calcium oxide, and then absorb carbon dioxide from the air and form calcium carbonate, or react with sulfur dioxide to form calcium sulfite. Calcium hydroxide is widely used in production and living, for example, it can be used together with sands to lay bricks, or be made into lime slurry to paint walls; it can be mixed with hexasul and made into lime slurry to paint trees to prevent them from frosting and reproduction of pests; it can be used to make concrete; and in farming industry, people use lime milk together with solution of copper sulphate to prepare bordeaux mixture as pesticide for sterilization. Mix appropriate amount of hydrated lime into soil for de-acidification and changing the acidity and alkaline of soil, and thus benefiting crops. It can also be used to manufacture food addictive, sodium hydroxide, and produce bleaching powder; production of calcium carbonate, epichlorohydrin, propylene oxide, bleaching powder, calcium hypochlorite, disinfectant, antacids, astringents, water softening agents, soil amelioration agents, depilatory, buffers, neutralizers, curing agents and medicines. When it is used in rubber and petrochemical addictives such as lubricating oils, it can prevent coking, sludge deposition and neutralization and corrosion.
